The question of "How does churningcanada.ca make money?" comes up very often.
ChurningCanada.ca runs on a non-profit basis.
We have zero plans, now or in the future, to monetize this site. The vision for this site is to act as a public repository of resources such that anyone who has questions can find a relatively easily defined answer on this site, allowing r/churningcanada threads to be more condensed and with fewer repeat questions.
Yes, there are a number of costs associated with running a site like this, however, because we want to maintain editorial oversight, it is impossible to add any form of monetization, particularly sponsored posts, sponsored advertisements, credit card referral links, and other affiliates which will have different interests.
If we were to partner with financial institutions to generate revenue for this site, we are at their mercy, and they may demand certain content to not be removed, because after all, financial institutions are a business and they would not want a publishing partner to publish glitches, special links or the like since it does not help with their bottom line. This undermines the reasoning behind why we created this site.
We want to help you, as community members to get the most bang for your buck, not the credit card companies, and most certainly not ourselves!
If we were to list our personal referrals on this site, it could be argued that we would have financial incentive to promote cards that are known to provide a kickback to us, which again, may not be in the best interest of the community.
Of course, I cannot simply leave you hanging and not address the elephant in the room. Right now, we are absorbing the costs of running this site out of our own pocket, which is currently feasible. However, I do want to leave a note here that in the future, we may resort to a similar policy as Doctor of Credit (a U. S. Credit Card blog), when the costs for us are too much to absorb out of our own pocket. If it comes to that point, we may seek to add affiliate links that are properly disclosed and they will NEVER be by means of sponsored posts, sponsored advertisements, credit card referral links, and other similar affiliates, where we have to be accountable to an external organization and be forced to modify the resources we have available on this site. When it comes to any affiliate links, we will promptly post a banner indicating that they have been added, and as a not for profit website, we will seek to give back 90%, if not more of the commissions received at a minimum to the end user who has used a commissionable link.
It is additionally of note that financial contributions are made by the administrator on a semi-annual basis. The administrator, and its editors may have listed referrals on r/churningcanada's referral threads, however, the cash value of these referrals are not added to the site's finances unless otherwise specified by the referred.
If you have any concerns of our finances, you are welcome to view the ledger of this site's finances here.
